We are looking forward to another great season with Team Summit.
As the summer wraps up and winter is right around the corner we need to direct our training toward more ski specific exercises.
Here are some great ideas from Alex Bunt, Lindsey Vonn's strength and conditioning coach: https://www.skiracing.com/premium/the-bunt-effect
Enjoy the fall riding and hiking, but begin adding more of Bunts routines to your routine!
One simple way to do this is to combine a strength routine, a hike, or a bike with some balance exercises at the end of your workout.
Huge congratulations to Mack Dorf (2nd) and Ian Rogers (1st) from Vail, both placing in the Sundance Canyon Road Race in Boulder.
Its summer time and the trails are open for mountain biking. Below is a video of a young man going over the handlebars and narrowly avoiding a big collision with a tree!
The result of the crash was a clavicle fracture.
There is one special day of the year when Dr. Dorf takes his team to Denver for some fun. Dr. Dorf and Dr. Joseph teams combined this year for some team building exercises including go kart racing, indoor sky diving, and bowling.
Thank you Dr. Dorf and Dr. Joseph for Team day!
Dr. Dorf was in the OR to help when a young skier sustained a severe injury on the ski slope. The extensive repair on the skier's wrist included: 11 tendons, 2 arteries, and 3 nerves.
Dr. Dorf and one of his kiddos taking a ski lunch break. It's always good to recharge before getting back out on the slopes!
Clavicle fractures are a common injury seen in our clinic. They are sustained by a fall directly onto the shoulder and can be a very painful injury.
One of our patients was able to get a video of his method of injury.

He sustained a comminuted fracture of the midshaft of the clavicle that is 100% displaced.

The Vail Town Races start today for recreational and professional skiers, snowboarders, and telemarkers. Every year Dr. Dorf competes in the race series proudly representing Vail-Summit Orthopaedics.

Ski season is well underway despite the undesirable ski conditions.
