Biologics & Regenerative Medicine

What is Regenerative Medicine?

With some injuries our healing potential may be limited by poor blood supply, tissue damage or age. Biologics is a new field of medicine aimed at minimizing the effects of these degenerative processes. Regenerative medicine utilizes the human potential to aid in healing injuries. I take advantage of two biologic processes to assist with recovery in instances where my patients’ ability to heal is compromised.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma is produced by separating a patient’s blood into three layers. One of these layers contains the platelets which are a critical component in blood clotting. Implantation of these platelets into damaged causes the platelets to release growth factors which stimulate a regenerative response. This regenerative medicine procedure can take place in our Edwards or Vail Offices and is useful for the treatment of tendinitis, and early stage arthritis.

Bone Marrow Concentrate (BMC)

Bone Marrow Concentrate is produced by taking blood and bone marrow from specific locations in the iliac crest, near the hip. BMC consists of the platelets from PRP, but also live cells which stimulate healing. This regenerative medicine procedure is performed in the operating room. I utilize BMC to assist in the healing of tendon injuries when I am concerned that the potential for healing has been severely compromised.

We have partnered with Greyledge Technologies to provide you with a biologic boost that will help you achieve your optimum outcome. Make an appointment to find out if a regenerative medicine/biologics procedure can help you.
