A swift hand silences the alarm as to not wake a sleeping wife. At 4:30 a.m. Dr. Erik Dorf prepares for another busy day. He still has six hours until he needs to be at Vail-Summit Orthopaedics for work. He isn't thinking about that though – this part of the day is for him alone. The dust glows bright behind his spinning tires as the first rays of light hit the trail. Vail native Dr. Erik Dorf is a physician with Vail-Summit Orthopaedics. He specializes in hand, elbow and shoulder injuries.

Most people just have surgery and rehab when they blow out a knee. Vail Valley native Eric Dorf used it as a gateway to a new career.

Dorf was recently hired as Vail-Summit Orthopaedics’ newest surgeon, with a specialty in the upper extremities, meaning he focuses on just about everything from the fingertip to the shoulder.
